Cannot add new files via CP

I am relatively new to EE.  I have been successfully adding audio files to our website using our CP.  I last added new files in May.  I have tried to add files yesterday but I cant.  CP says files have been successfully added, but they are not there?  I have absolutely no idea how to begin troubleshooting this…

    Thanks for your help

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, Knoxville Church.

First things first - let’s find out which version of EE you’re working with.

Can you tell us which version/build of EE2.x you’re using? See EEWiki:// HowTo Determine My EE Version

Next, you said you were able to add files before, but not now. When you say the files aren’t there, what do you mean? How are you trying to add them?

Thank you Sue!  I am using version 2.1.0.  I am (or was) uploading files to our website by logging into the site’s control panel as a super administrator.  I would go to the file manager page, choose a directory, then upload a file from my PC to the server.  After a few seconds, I would see a green checkmark in the top right corner telling me that the files had been successfully uploaded.  Then I could see the file in the directory and update our website with a link to the new file.  Now, I get the successful message, but the file is not actually in the directory.  I suspect that I would be able to upload the file if I logged in to SFTP (as opposed to logging into the website control panel as a user).  But I dont know why the control panel stopped working in the first place?

    Hi, Knoxville Church -

I am sorry you are running into this!

I suspect that something about the permissions on the receiving directory have been changed.  Can you SFTP in and locate that directory and ensure it is 777 permissions?

Also, EE 2.2.1 vastly improved the file manager and has many, many bug fixes since your version.  I strongly recommend updating.

    Does that help?

Thanks for your help!  When I try to connect via SFTP, it says ‘could not connect to server’.  I have connected before in the past, but I have a new pc since then… I am using FileZilla, port 22, trying to connect to sftp://ftp03.ehclients.com/.  Any ideas as to why I cannot connect?

    Hi, KC!

I’m going to need to ask you to contact EngineHosting for help with that; we’re close, but separate companies, so they can help you access your FTP.

    Thank you!

Please let us know what you find out, then we can proceed with the troubleshooting from there.  Have a great weekend!

EngingeHosting was able to help me SFTP.  I can upload files successfully via SFTP.  When I look at the file attributes for the folder in question, I see a numeric value of 755.  Is that what you are asking about?

    Hi Knoxville,

That’s what we’re looking for. That value needs to be 777 in order to accept file uploads. Make that change and try to upload via the CP. Let us know if that resolves the issue for you.

    Cheers!
