    Hi all,

From a conceptual perspective, what is the ExpressionEngine Fieldtypes management screen for?  I have Matrix (from Pixel & Tonic) installed and I know I can enable or disable it from there but there are options for checkboxes, multi-select, etc.

If I’m not using these fieldtypes in my custom fields, can I just turn them off?  Will that affect performance at all?

All my custom fields so far are either text input or textarea so disabling checkboxes etc would be safe, if they aren’t used for any other purpose.

    Can someone provide some clarification?

    Thanks

You can turn them off though, I don’t think it will effect performance one way or another. The only benefit I could think of would be if you didn’t want to have the extra options listed in the drop down when creating a new channel field. Not sure that’s even worth turning them off. One day you will probably have to just turn them back on anyhow.

    digitalformula,

As Natetronn says there is no affect on performance really. These are only options that you as a developer is ever going to see when creating new custom fields. You can certainly turn them off though

    Does that help?
