CP problems after 2.2.1 upgrade and MSM install

    Hi,

I have just migrated a site to a new server, and upgraded it to 2.2.1. Everything seemed to be working fine. I then installed MSM and when setting up Site B, chose to duplicate the Site A templates and all but one channel.

Now I am finding that the CP is really slow 90% of the time, to the point where the edit screens seem to fail to load fully, and display a broken layout.

I also have some PHP errors in Membership Preferences > Channel Assignment. The only channel I did not duplicate (the important one!) has its channel id rather than name displayed in the channel list, and above it are these errors:

    A PHP Error was encountered
    Severity: Notice
    Message: Undefined index: options
    Filename: members/edit_member_group.php
    Line Number: 136

    A PHP Error was encountered
    Severity: Notice
    Message: Undefined index: options
    Filename: members/edit_member_group.php
    Line Number: 137

    Other relevant info:

Latest versions of EE and MSM (downloaded yesterday)
Our server is already running plenty of other EE sites
    No extensions enabled
Freeform and AJW data import modules installed
    Caches cleared
    No errors reported during upgrade/installation
    Public site seems fine

Maybe the support staff can merge your request with ours:

    zackmorgan,

This is a confirm bug reported here. Keep an eye on the status of the bug there for any updates.

How much PHP memory do you have?
Is this in the second site or the first site?
Is it logged in as SuperAdmin or a different member group?
Is it just the Edit screen?

    Thanks.

Have I understood correctly that duplicating templates is the issue? Can I avoid this bug by reinstalling everything and not importing templates? Or should I start again with the migration, and not upgrade to 2.2.1 next time?

Or is it recommended that I continue developing the site on 2.2.1, trying to ignore the bugs for now, and trust that they will be fixed shortly and not lead to a show-stopper later on? I need to get on with the development of the site somehow!

As for the slow CP, this is the case for Super Admins and other groups, in both sites. All pages usually take around 20 seconds to load, although execution time is typically shown as around 0.1 seconds. PHP has I think 256MB memory (it’s a dedicated server). Sometimes pages appear to load but menu navigation is not immediately functional, as if some javascript or css somewhere is holding things up.

I have been testing on another machine, and the CP is no longer so slow - no idea why. However, the broken publish/edit form issue remains. It looks like it is not caused by page timeout as I’d assumed, but by PHP errors. Please see attached screenshot. The relevant part of the page source seems to be:

The errors occur in Site A only, and only in the channels which were duplicated to Site B.

So it seems that this is part of the same bug. It would be great to get an answer to my previous post regarding how best to proceed.

OK, resetting page layouts as recommended at http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/192669/ seems to have removed that form layout error, although hasn’t fully restored my confidence in this version of EE.

So, what do I do now - best to start again, without duplicating templates and channels next time?

    Hi Zack,

Since the first error you posted could be the root cause of a lot of this, let’s start there. That bug has been fixed as of today, and Greg posted here that he can make the fix available to anyone who needs it. Let’s get that issue patched and see if any of the other issues remain.

Post back with an update once you’re able to apply the patch.

Thanks Kevin. I have applied the patch and things seem to be working better, although at this point I am keeping my fingers crossed. There is one small display issue I have noted in the Bug Tracker - I hope nothing else shows up.
