    Hello,

Few questions, firstly, I recently volunteered to help a not for profit in a large australian charity campaign. I noticed they were running an extremely old version of EE (1.6.0) on it, over a bunch of licenses.

I attempted to ask in your forums general discussion about whether there were security issues with version 1.6.0 with no reply, so I checked the changelog and have noted a considerable amount of security updates.

I need to upgrade the site immediately as the families of the children this charity helps have personal information stored on the same server box, and it is paramount their privacy is protected. I am suprised that I cannot get a free security update so i can go and do this quickly, being that EE 1.6.0 software is insecure I would expect a free upgrade but I dont have time to fight over it I’ll just pay out of my own pocket if i have to.

    My problem is this:

    1) Being that 1.6.0 is obviously very old, I need to know what information I should give you (EE) so that the charity can upgrade their license. Can a rep take the license numbers from their server or something. They most definately will not know what email was used to register EE 4 years ago.

    2) What is the cost and how do i actually go about upgrading their license, is the 1.X series actually secure and tested? Or do i have to go to 2.X for recent security testing to have occured.

As for the migration from 1.X to 2.X, from what i can see it is a large change, The committee for this charity has been discussing a large overhaul for the CMS, so if possible I would prefer to keep the CMS the same and just patch security, rather than doing a large change right now as it will involve training and other expensive activities to me, the volunteer.

I tried to find 1.X upgrade pricing via your buy link and there is no option to buy that. How do i even buy the upgrade? I’m guessing I may need to log in under the old license.

    Welcome to our community, gravitymarketing!

EE 1 was a subscription system.  The way it worked for EE 1 is that you own the license forever, and get free updates and support for a year.  After that, you had to renew for another year for those updates - for a non-profit, that would have been $19.95.  So in order to get your EE 1.6 up to EE 1.7.1 - the latest version in the EE 1 branch, which is still receiving bug and security updates - yes, you would need to renew for the $19.95.  That is assuming we can locate your license information and gain access to that account.

What I am going to do is send you a private email so that we can research this together - it’ll involve lookups and license details, hence doing it privately - and we’ll see what we can figure out.

    Thank you!
