Hello everyone,

I would like to ask some questions about expression engine. I saw that with EE I can create a back office to manage my site better and faster. I have my website made with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. Every time I need to add a project I have to take a significant amount of time to add the project in all the pages the project needs to be. I suppose that with EE I can make it faster and in a more controlled way.

My question is, how difficult it is to make a website in Expression Engine and also if it’s possible to make a website similar, in layout and graphics, to the one I have now ( http://www.luisporem.com )

Welcome to the forums!

YES! perfectly possible and well within the capability of Expression Engine. A brief outline would be something like.

- Rebuild static HTML templates based on current site HTML.
- Install and customise Expression Engine
- Integrate new EE into the new templates

You will end up saving a lot of admin time and will have a framework for ANY sort of additional content in the future.

It looks like, somehow a little bit complex. I’ve never used the Expression Engine before and don’t know how it works with it. I was searching for information to see if I was able to make it as I want so I can buy the EE.

Don’t worry, I draw pictures for a living (designer) and I think EE is amazingly straightforward.

Sorry if I overloaded you there. The mind-map shows what Channels store the content, the Field Groups show what bits of data make up each type of content (entry). If you can get your head around those two parts, then the rest is plain sailing.

You don’t need to know any PHP. Just HTML and CSS and by looking at your current site you seem to know your way around that just fine. EE has it’s own set of tags which are used to pull data out of the database.

Honestly (without trying to sell it to you) EE is a very flexible CMS which can be used any way you need.

I was thinking on adding some other things to the website like a search, a newsletter and other stuff that might improve my website. Is all this easy to add in the web with EE?

While your additions are quite broad, yes they are all well within the ability of EE.

It’s easy when you know how. But not difficult to learn in my opinion.

Expression engine, and using a few of the abundant add-ons available, for example, on http://www.devot-ee.com will be able to do - I daresay - everything your heart desires. You will need to put in some time to learn the ins-and-outs of the, what I would call, “expression engine as a platform” for creating web apps, not just run-of-the-mill web sites. You will soon discover that is goes far beyond that what might be merely considered another CMS. Indeed, I am using it as a scaffold (em Português “andaimes”) where I insert a lot of my own custom PHP and SQL without having to reinvent the wheel on memberships, file management, and so on. You will love it. The “evangelisation” of EE by many members on this forum is a testament to that.

You might consider that it will be a steep learning curve in the beginning. But the payoff will be big.
