I’m sure that subject line didn’t make any sense. I’ll try to explain my scenario. I have a custom field in a channel that’s a drop down menu with a list of specific items. Each entry has to select one item. I want that list of items to always appear in my site sidebar. I want to be able to click on one of those links and the entries that have that particular item selected will appear. Does this make sense? Is it possible?

    Thanks!

    Hi brittanyA,

For the most flexibility in accomplishing what you are describing, would it be possible for you to use categories instead of a dropdown?

Categories provide greater flexibility, and would allow you to list them in the sidebar with a link to all entries marked with that corresponding category.

Here is how you can Manage Categories in the CP and how to show your categories in the sidebar.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

Yes, I figured I’d have to use categories? This would be easiest for us but I really want a smooth interface for the client: is there a way to display categories within the publish page form and NOT in its own tab? I figure this is within the realm of an add-on?

    Thanks Kyle!

    Hey brittanyA,

Actually you don’t need an add-on for this. Utilizing the power of the “Publish Customization” sidebar on the publish page, you can show or hide what you want the user to see, including categories!

All you have to do is open that sidebar, and drag the categories field to where you want it on the publish page!

I’ve attached an image to clarify.

Let me know if that works for you!

    Thanks.

    Great! Glad you like it.

Does that answer all your questions?

    Thanks.
