2 new sites, using MSM, what is the best way to do things?

I’m going to be building 2 sites for a client and using MSM. There will be a “Main” site and a “Niche” site. I have a fresh install of EE on the server and the “Main” site domain name is pointing to it. The “Niche” site will be built first. I plan on “Creating a New Site” and putting in the info for the “Niche” site and starting there.

Is this the best way to do this? In the docs it mentions importing channels, preferences, etc. I haven’t created anything or modified any settings yet. Will I just have to modify preferences for both sites as I go? Thanks for any information.

When you set up MSM you do have the option to copy/import any existing data but it’s not mandatory. Leave it set to import “nothing”, and when done your “niche” site will be empty, ready for you to add Channels etc.
