How to stop custom fields being wrapped with <p> tags?

    Greetings

I have a few custom fields, just simple text inputs with formatting set to “none”. Yet on displaying the field the system insists on wrapping the content with tags, which is driving me potty. The weird thing is that on my local dev version it doesn’t do it yet the custom field setup is identical.

What could possibly be going on here?

Any wysiwyg editors involved? Does it do it for new entries after your changed the formatting?

Wygwam is installed but not in use for the Channel in question. There is only one and will only ever be one entry for this Channel however on testing this by creating a new entry the issue does NOT occur. So is there some hangover from the main entry? Weird ...

Okay sorted it out ... i don’t know why but the formatting options were not being saved into the channel_data table for the original entry. I manually added them in and now it’s al groovy.

Very weird but thanks for getting me to look in the right direction!

FWIW sometimes you have to reset the formatting by editing your custom field, setting it to “Auto BR”, saving, and then setting it back to “None” and saving again. That process seems to accomplish the same thing as manually updating the table—most of the time 😉

Cool, yes something I have seen this happen were toggle of settings does not update existing entries.
Glad it was enough info to get your sorted out.

Thanks to you both ... a little oddity that just requires a little lateral thinking 😊

    Hi David,

Not sure which version you were on but more recent ones shouldn’t have that problem. Glad you got it working! Thanks all.
