Temporarily block access to Control Panel?

Is there a way to temporarily block access to the Control Panel so no one logs in and tries to edit content while I am updating? I realize I could just rename index.php within my system directory, but then the editors will receive a page not found error and call me wondering what’s up. I’d like to set it up so it says I am updating the site and will be back up and running shortly.

    Any ideas?

It sounds like http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/cp-pad-lock/ might fit your needs.

If you haven’t done so already, set yourself as the only super admin, then adjust the member privileges for all other groups to not have control panel access.

You can always re-grant access after you’ve finished the updates.

Thanks guys! I think Tom’s solution will do the trick!

Ryan, I thought about your idea, but I have like 10 member groups and it would not be very fun to go in and block each group.

    Thanks again guys!
