XHTML formatting on custom field even when set to "none"

This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I’m having the same issue as the thread above. I’ve created a custom field, set the formatting to “none” and added a website URL to that custom field via the publish area. When I view the site live, I’m getting html thrown into the custom field which throws off the a href value since that’s where I’m using the custom field contents.

It seems this is fixed in the newest beta release, but I’m wonder if there’s another way? Or is the beta solid enough to go ahead and upgrade to it? I just don’t want to run into more issues down the road because of the beta.

Hi, Deron. It’s an easy enough fix to do while waiting on the release of 2.2.0:

Convert your custom field to use XHTML. Set all the entries to be updated to XHTML. Then set the custom field to be set to None for that field, and update all the entries. It’ll work now.

    Does that help?

Hi, Sue.  I saw that fix you posted in the other thread. No, that doesn’t do anything for me. The field seems to be fine until I use a URL in it, then it adds the to the link automatically.

I’ve also noticed too with this custom field that it’s hidden by default, even though I’ve set it to be shown by default. Any ideas there? I’ve deleted and recreated the field numerous times and tried what you suggested. I’m on 2.1.3 build 20110411

Ugh… and this is what happens when you don’t build a site with EE for nearly a year. You forget everything. That was the issue. Thanks for the help. *facepalm*

Any ideas on why the field is hidden by default? I’ve saved the publish layout with it not hidden, but it seems like it just goes back to hidden.

    Hi Deron,

Is this the latest version and build of EE? Please check that the option “Show this field by default?” is set to ‘yes’ in the field itself. If you remove the layout and then recreate it does the field remain hidden by default?

    Cheers

    Greg

Sorry, Greg for the delayed reply. I was using the latest version and build (until today that is). I see 2.2 was released. I’ll upgrade and see if that fixes my issues.
