A question about sub-categories

    Hello everyone.

I am building part of a site that is to be a market for the users on the site. On the market the users shall have three categories; buy, sell and trade. I am using safecracker in order to make it accessible for non-registered users, and this works really good. My problem however, is that under each of the three main categories there has to be additional categories. These categories are the same for all three.

In example we want there to be a buy/drivers, sell/drivers and trade/drivers. I don’t really understand how I can do this. It should also be possible to just view all drivers, regardless of whether they’re being bought, sold or traded.

Any hint to how I can do this with EE?

    Thanks a lot in advance
    /Rasmus

    Rasmus,

Can you explain this a bit more please?
Are your users adding entries or editing entries?

You could turn by,sell and trade into a custom field so there is a choice and then just have driver as a main category

Another alternative is to have a buy, sell and trade Channel and then use driver as a category

And again another is that buy, sell trade and drivers are all Channels and there is a custom field in by, sell and trade that is a relationship back to the Driver Channel

Does that help or confuse things more 😊

If you explain some more of the context it will be easier to see which path to take here

Hi and thanks for the response.

It does not confuse me, but I fail to see how I can “nest” the categories with buy/sell/trade in your proposals. To clarify things, I’ve deployed the site to a server. I’ve found a solution, but I am quite sure it is not the right way to go, and thus pagination does not work properly. Below you will see the code from my market template index file. I utilize the Segment to Category module.

I have one channel, market, which has two category groups attached to it. One containing the buy/sell/trade and the other containing the respective types of golf equipment. You can find the deployed page here at http://golfonline.alwaysdata.net/market (It is not styled yet)

    Hoping for a brilliant idea.
