I read a number articles urging newcomers to ExpressionEngine to hold off on third-party add-ons. The idea is that, after building a couple of things using just the features included in EE2, you have a better feel for what the package can really do. I thought that was good advice, so I followed it.

Now I’m ~3/4 of the way through my first real EE2 site build, and I’m realizing that the number “static” pages in the site is growing. The content editors for this site are used to working with WordPress’ “pages” when dealing with this sort of thing, so the Structure add-on looks like it might really help them. The thing is, I’m sort of afraid of how much re-working might be required to hook Structure into the site being this far along.

I have no qualms about buying a license of the add-on, but I don’t want to bill it to this client if it’s going to be a big pain to re-finagle the site to use it. It’s also possible the editors can just get used to working with the site using just EE2, but I want to be able to present them with the option, and have a general idea how much time introducing Structure to the site would add.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it usually an easy process to plop Structure in, or is it something you want to start building the site with to start with?
