    Hi there,

What’s the best way to create a multilanguage site?

How would you create a multilanguage site using MSM (Multi Site Manager)?

I’ve seen http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Multi_language_site_alternative/, but it doesn’t seem to scale well to multiple languages and takes much time to add fields and update the entry layout.

Is there a way to do something like this:

    - Multi site manager
    - Shared channel “content” (with fields: title, url_title, entry_id, content-image, content-text)
    - Shared entry ID and content-image, but each site should have a different text, title and url_title
    - Shared upload directory

    Thanks

    Kees Internet,

There is a lot to decide when planning a Multilanguage website like

What does your client want from a multi-language website?
Who will be updating the website?
Do they need the ability to add more languages?
What type of domain are we working with?
What type of multi-language website is needed?

Deciding on the type of website is a very simple step which is often forgotten when developing a multi-language website. There are in fact 2 different types of websites you can choose from.

    Versions - Multiple translated versions

Translations - 1 version and multiple translations

Versions is where you could bring MSM into it and duplicate each site for each language.
Translations you are going to need to create all those custom fields for each language.

Both have their pros and cons

There are a number of add-ons that may help too.

    Does that help a bit?

I can move this thread to Community Help if you wish to bring the discussion in there?
