    Hi again,
“Publish a New Entry” page -

    Go to Content -> Publish
This screen will initially load in “edit mode”

Going to Content -> Publish only produce secondary menu with my 2 channels in it.
So I click on one, wait a while (everything is slow) and I get a blank page.
    Your advise, please

    P.S.
Maybe it all make sense at one point, but so far the tutorial is a series of seemly-unconnected moves that does not add up to a true understanding.

    Hi gString,

Typically that line isn’t needed, and typically it needs to be an absolute path, but in this case a relative path worked. It looks like your server is pulling files off of a network share (the absolute path starts with two slashes) so I’m guessing that’s part of it. Windows is definitely trickier in this regard than *NIX servers. Does everything still seem to be working OK?

Unfortunately, not everything is ok: Please see my new post

I’m sure you are much knowledgeable then myself regarding servers (not very difficult, I’m afraid  ) but I did use absolute server-path in the control.php without any problem.

    Hi, gString.

You’re on a Windows box, right? Is it feasible to consider moving to a different host that runs Linux instead? Just in case we run into issues with configuration..

    Hi Sue,
I’m afraid it’s not possible for me to move at the moment. Should I give up on EE until I’m on Linux?

gString, we still have your login details and will take a look.

Mod Note: Merged threads since this may be related.

    Hi gString,

One of your files (themes/cp_themes/default/content/publish.php) was empty for some reason. I replaced it with the correct file. I’d highly recommend following these build update instructions to make sure that all your files are intact, as some other files may not have made it to the server properly.

I also notice it’s taking 8-10 seconds to load simple pages in the control panel, and according to the Output Profiler that is the server’s execution time, which is really quite slow. I’d definitely consult the host here as using EE will not be very fun this way!

In any case, let us know if Publish is working for you now.

    Thank you,
I will do as you suggest. The Publish seems to be working fine.

    Brandon -
    Hi again.
Instead of following the update instructions, I’m doing folder-by-folder file-size comparison. I seems more reliable to me, and I don’t really need an update. If you beg to differ I’d like to know.
Anyway - I did find a few files that had 0 bytes and replaced them. But - there is a file that is actually one byte LARGER on the server, and I want to make sure it make sense: /system/expressionengine/libraries/core.php
    Thanks again.

I compared the code of system/expressionengine/libraries/core.php on the server and the one I have locally, superficially.
I found out that the file on the server had an extra empty line, line #36. this is probably the cause of that extra byte. WHY that happen is beyond me. Unless you tweak it, of course.

    Hi gString,

the purpose of the build update in this instance even if you are on the same build is to make sure all your files are intact. A folder-by-folder file-size comparison would not be a reliable method.

Do you still have any outstanding issues or are you now up and running?

    Hi there John,
I’m sorry, I realize I did not phrase myself correctly - I meant file-by-file file-size comparison. My bad.
Uploading the files again does not mean they all upload correctly this time around. IMHO, checking the file size of each one does cover this better then any reasonable method I can think of. Am I wrong?

In any case, I don’t experience any issues at the moment. The exception of that would be the unsatisfactory tutorial and documentation. I wish I was your employee just so I can re-do them from scratch 😊

    Thank you.
