Thread devoted to EE development with IE version 6 and above. We don’t develop in it, but it always has to be tested.
1. After a full day of a two man troubleshoot, we realized that IE8 and below could not handle a lightbox transparent overlay when using jQuery tools. The overlay would appear a solid color in all versions of IE. This was because with output and debugging turned on and the page being so large in vertical scroll, IE simply gives up and the opacity turns to 100%. Lazy Microsoft, this is IE8 - PLEASE JUST STOP.
2. When using the jQuery .load() method to lightbox another EE template. This does not work if you’re solely targeting a specific HTML5 element like ARTICLE with an ID. The lighbox would return empty when using IE8. We ended up using a DIV tag instead.
We’re now experiencing realistic 3d characters on film, yet we cannot even get a 2-dimensional 3-column site in an internet browser to behave properly. Wow! I seriously want to beat Microsoft up for giving us continual delay of moving forward.
We’re happy that IE6 is almost obsolete, yet there is still 7 and 8 we have to defeat. I’m sure there will be 9 as well. It’s never ending as long as Microsoft continues to release a bad browser. The reputation is just bad overall, yet the average user doesn’t know. I’d rather use XP than Vista at work right now.
