Controlling Access by Group

This question is related to a resolved thread.

A client needs to control access to some content by group.  Each group represents a seminar session.  There are two sessions per year, and the client only wants each group to have access to particular content after the seminar has begun.

I’m trying to avoid having to edit the template every 6 months to add the new groups in the conditional and I’d like the client to be able to control access.  So I’m wondering if there’s a way to create custom fields for groups like I did for members in the linked thread above.

I can’t find any add-ons for custom member group fields.  I thought of using the description field but would hate to need it later for its intended use.

    Hi Geoff,

I found one called Entry access which looks like it should do what you want. Does that help?

    John Henry,

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately it’s EE2 and this particular site is EE1 (sorry, I posted in the wrong forum I now realize).  I’ll just setup a manual solution.

    Hey Geoff–

I moved the thread to the appropriate forum in case others want to suggest some solutions here. From what I can see, though, John Henry’s plugin is just about the only thing, and yet it isn’t compatible with EE1. I know this isn’t exactly a solution, but perhaps you could request the dev release an EE1 version? Or offer to backport it for him?

    Kevin
