That would work, Sue, but we’re adding things constantly and it is a section we’re diving into with gusto. It is a decent workaround solution, I realize. I hadn’t put them in custom alpha order so you could see it wasn’t in alpha order.

I’m just surprised there aren’t others on 2.1.3 that are using any of the category tags that have run into this problem. I’m the only person who is using category tags, for real?

I don’t mean to sound like I don’t appreciate your help. I really do. I really, really, really do.

It’s still a bug.. will be posting it soon. What happens is that the sorting is not done correctly, it’s sorting by the wrong field. Which is why you had issues with alphabetical order. I’ll add the bug report to this entry when I file the report.

Ahh… Get it. So the manually sorting of the CP is manually sorting the table or is something else doing it. Would it be possible for us to add a Cron job to manually sort the table until the bug was fixed or is there more to it than that?

Sue, we’re good. As long as you guys know about the bug we’re OK. We can manually sort by alpha for now because every time we add a category we can put it in alpha order (DUH!). It isn’t like categories come out of no where. They have to be added, so we’ll sort them as they are added. If you need any more from us, just let us know. We’ll keep that test area there in case you need a place to go to for real data.

Hi, Connie. The weird thing is that I can’t replicate the problem on two other EE 2.1.5 sites.

    Here’s one: http://shetestssoftware.com/index.php/testme/catstuff

This is set to be sorted in alphabetical.

Since this is a temp site, can you try with a new set of categories? Still trying to see what is causing this.

Sounds good. Let us know when you can test.

Created a new category group named “testing” and applied it to the main channel. I intentionally entered it not in alpha order. While I was entering it, it sorted correctly by alpha in the CP. After it was entered, I resorted it custom, and moved it around in an order other than alpha. Then I put it back to alpha and it was wonky again, not displayed by alpha in the template (the CP was always fine, no matter what).

You can peek by looking at the same template as before: testing/home.

Here are the results of the alpha sort, after it was a custom sort. It appears to be sorting by category ID in the template:

    130 - Omega
    131 - Episilon
    132 - Alpha
    133 - Beta
    ———139 - Blocker
    ———140 - Hey
    134 - Kappa
    135 - Phi
    ———141 - Delta Gamma
    136 - Zeta
    137 - Gamma
    ———138 - Ray

Thanks, Connie. I’ll try this on my site to see what happens when I try what you did.

    Thanks CDT,

We’ve tried with your test dataset on the development build and this no longer looks like an issue. Thanks for staying on this! Going ahead and closing as this should be resolved in the next release, but don’t hesitate to start a new thread.
