I have downloaded and unzipped the EE 2.1.3 folder, uploaded to my server at Dreamhoster.com for testing purposes. I am following the installation instructions and cannot get to the set up wizard.

I have set up my db properly. I have tried leaving the system folder as default and also changed the path accordingly to no avail. I have also set the config/constants.php to 666 and 777 as appropriate and also tried leaving it as default.

I am getting a 500 Server error. What have I not configured properly? There was no .htaccess file in the download and I read somewhere to upload one at the root level… have tried that too. My url is: http://www.maranatha-webcast.dreamhosters.com

    Help! 😊

Hi, selahwebdesign - welcome to the forums!

Have you tried out the server requirements to ensure your server is compatible with ExpressionEngine? That would be the first step.

Also, Error 500s are one of the more ambiguous server side errors; you might ask your host if they can provide the error log or indicate what is causing that error.  They’ll have more insight into what’s triggering those errors.

    Thanks!

Thanks, I know the server is compatible, my client uses EE on it. I had configured at first but was getting a different error, ‘index.php file not configured correctly’ and as I have attemtped to ‘fix it’ I am now getting the server error! LOL!

Is there no where that just simply tells me or shows me what the files should look like?

    Hi, selahwebdesign -

I’d recommend reverting your index.php back to what it was before.  Is this the one from the download of ExpressionEngine?  If you can give us a screenshot of that error, it might help us to figure out what is going on.

The best way to see what it should look like is by getting a fresh copy from a fresh download.
