This question may be related to a resolved thread.

Hi, I’m trying to install the forums module - no problem getting it to install and setting up in control panel but I can’t see the discussion board when I go to ‘visit forums’. Not sure whether or not I should perform the edit on .htaccess or not. I want to run the forum as a link from my main site as ‘...com/index.php/forums’, which incidentally was set up as the default when I installed the module.

    Thanks for your help,

    John

    Hi,

I have noticed someone with a similar problem but unfortunately I don’t know much (anything) about the .htaccess file and haven’t changed it so don’t see why it should be wrong. The forum won’t let me attach the file and the content is too long to put in the post. Annoying but understandable.

I’m running discussion module 3.1.2 with EE Freelancer 2.1.3

    Thanks again,

    John

I have now deleted .htaccess and it appears to have no detrimental effect on the site but hasn’t resolved the forum problem.

Still can’t see it. I’m stuck now so will have to give up until you reply.

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi, John.

The Discussion Forum isn’t meant to be used with the Freelancer license. See:

    Hmmm….. that’s unfortunate.  😠

It would have been good to have an error message and also useful for the licence to be checked before I paid for it and installed the module. I’ll have a think about what to do - I suppose the options are to upgrade to a commercial licence or ask for my money back (is that an option?).

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi,

I have updated to a commercial licence. Since I have already suffered almost endless frustration and lost a lot of time it would be great if you could answer quickly.

Do I need to reinstall everything or can I just upgrade the licence somehow? I am no expert and having lost my site and had to rebuild it a couple of times in transferring from MAMP to live I really don’t want to spend yet more time installing software. I bought EE to make my life easier, which I think it will in the long run but at the moment it has been much harder.

Thanks again and apologies for slight grumpiness - I know it isn’t your fault; it’s mostly mine.
