Hi, I am very new to EE, just bought the freelancer license and I am trying to get my head around it before I build a site for a client that has requested EE.

I have searched a the forums and Google but can’t seem to find a straight answer, how to you go about exporting and importing all your content from your site. I have been following the Mijingo tutorials and built a little site, now I would like to export that content (save it for another day), clear the site and start again while I convert my own site to EE. I also have my own site built on Wordpress, is there a way to import that content into EE ?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, as mentioned I am new to this and still learning.

    Cheers

    Hi George,

    Welcome to the forums 😊

I have been following the Mijingo tutorials and built a little site, now I would like to export that content (save it for another day), clear the site and start again while I convert my own site to EE.

Did you build this locally using MAMP or XAMPP?

You can build as many dev sites as you wish using your license. Your license only applies to one live site though. So if you are building locally then you are welcome to just create a new site rather than have to export everything.

I good add-on that you can import content into EE with is DataGrab and to export content from the same dev is AJW Export

    Does that help?

    Hi John,

Many thanks for the links, I’m going to have a play around with them now. I have built the site on a random testing domain as I wanted to learn the whole install experience too. Once I have finished the design I would like to switch this to another domain. If I upload all the template files I made will they appear in the template manager automatically ? Is there an idiots guide to domain switching a site anywhere ?

    Cheers

    George
