    Hi.

I’m developing my first EE site and have seem to hit a bit of a roadblock - any help would be really appreciated.

Basically, I’ve got a number of products within subcategories.

I would like the URI to be:

    products > [category] > [subcategory] > [product]

I’ve set up the products template group, category template, and nested categories. The category and subcategory should have an index page with a bit of blurb about them. There is also one channel set up for the products.

In an ideal world I would be able to set up a template group with a template (which would also allow me the index page), but this is not possible.

I’m going round in circles with this, so any help would be really appreciated.

From a URL perspective any category hierarchy structure you setup in EE is flat.  It’s meant for display only, not to establish hierarchical URLs.

If that URL structure is an absolute requirement I’d look at using Structure.

    Hi Sam@lightmaker,

    Welcome to the forums 😊

And by flat Mike means the native EE URL structure would be like so

    http://www.mydomain.com/index.php/products/category/category_url_title

    Or for a product

    http://www.mydomain.com/index.php/products/detail/product_url_title

I’ve just done this by employing http://loweblog.com/software/low-seg2cat/ ti query the URL and access the relevant category in my exp:channel categories tag.

This was also investigated but not required: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/category-url/

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

I’m going down the route Cheif suggested and making use of a single product index template, low-seg2cat, GWcode Categories and conditionals. If things don’t work out, then I’ll take a closer look at Structure.

    Thanks again.

Hi, Sam. Sounds like a good route to go down. I’ll go ahead and close this for now.. but if you require assistance with either of those add-ons, you’ll need to go to the author for direct support or post to the Community Help forum.
