    Upon entering a registered email address and submitting a successful “Instructions for resetting your password have just been emailed to you.” message appears, but I’m not sure the email is actually being send. I checked the junk mail folder as well w/ no luck.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ira,

    1. Have you double-checked the settings in Admin > Email Configuration?
    2. Are you able to send email from Tools > Communicate and receive that email?

    Hi Brandon,

    Unfortunately, no dice. I do get a successful “Your email has been sent” message, but nothing is actually sent. Email Configuration looked good yesterday as well (i.e., nothing blank). 😕

    I was getting a “Not able to send email at this time” message yesterday, and did fix that by going into php.ini and uncommenting sendmail_path. But, oddly enough, that should be just for Sendmail and Sendmail doesn’t send at all.

    Hi, Ira.

    Copy system/expressionengine/utilities/email_test.php to a publicly accessible location and run it. Is that able to send an email? We’re checking here outside of EE to see if mail is working in PHP.

    Hi Sue,

    The script on email_test.php did work, so it looks like it’s definitely something on my server. Thanks for your help with this.

    Hi Ira,

    I assume you meant “did not work”, correct? Keep us posted. It’d also be worth trying the Sendmail method in Admin > Email Configuration, as sometimes that can work even if PHP is misconfigured.

    Hi Brandon,

    That’s right, I meant since email_test.php did work, the email sending issues I’m having still do not work and it’s something on my server. I tried Sendmail earlier and still did not work.

    Hi Ira,

    Can you try adding these two lines to your config.php and try again please?

    $config['email_crlf'] = "\r\n";
    $config['email_newline'] = "\r\n";

    Hi, Ira -

    does your webmaster email in General Config match the domain that our site is delivered from?

    Thanks!

    Hi Lisa,

    No, it doesn’t. Since this EE 2 install is used for an intranet, the domain is different than the webmaster email. Possibly that’s the issue?

    Hi Ira,

    I had the same problem once and discovered that it had to do with the path settings in the system configuration.  If I remember correctly, I was missing a “/” at the end or had an extra one in there.  Look in the address bar of your browser after you click the reset password button and see if the url looks correct.

    I don’t know why this fixed my problem, but it did!

    All the best!

    Hi Annette,

    Unfortunately, everything looked okay w/ the trailing slash and email is still not being sent. I appreciate the help though!

    Hi Ira,

    Just to test please change the “Return email address for auto-generated emails” address at Admin > Email Configuration to one that matches your domain and try and send an email from the Communicate tab. Does that work?

    Cheers

    Greg
