    Hi There,

I need some help with categories. I’m building a directory structure with categories. I have the following on my index page to list all categories:

I have a list of categories with a link to each individual category. How do I set up the “href=”{path=list}” so that a new template will be created with a single category in it? Take a look at the bottom of this page, http://pncagr.ca/index.php and you will see my list of categories and that the links that are created for each category show a path with the category id (http://pncagr.ca/index.php/list/C5).

    Thanks for your help… dave

    Hi, Dave.

Looks like you figured it out..

I’m seeing that you’re using the category trigger word..

So are things working for you now?

    Hi Sue,

Thanks for checking that out. Yes, I did get it figured out after a very late night last night. Now… I’m trying to tackle subcategories. Do you treat them like regular categories? What’s the trick with these? Any advice you could offer would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    dave

Hi, Dave. I just answered this in your other thread…

I don’t bother with associating my sub categories with their parent, since I just display them like this:

    http://eehowto.com/

    See the right nav?

(Ignore the left, I still have to fiddle with that.)

http://eehowto.com/index.php/howto/archives/category/howto—here’s what I do with my categories..

    Does that help?

    Hi Sue,

I have been able to produce a display of categories on a page, but the subcategories are also being displayed along with them. I need to try and separate them out somehow. Here’s how the categories break down:

    Farm1 - produce - fruit
    Farm2 - produce - berries
    Farm3 - services
    Farm4 - tourism
    Farm5 - produce - vegetables

How can I display a page with farms that produces only berries without showing all the farms with the main category “produce”? Right now my produce page shows all farms that have produce as a main category. I don’t need a “produce” page, I need three pages that will list out the farms for each subcategory. Are you getting hungry yet all this talk of food? Hopefully I explained this well enough for you to see what I’m trying to do. Thanks… dave

    Hi Dave,

If I’m understanding correctly you’ll probably want an add-on like Child Categories or perhaps other category-related add-ons would do the trick.

Thanks Brandon… I’ll keep that in mind for next project. I have figured out a work-around for now. You may close this thread if you like. dave
