Hi I’m considering upgrading to the EE2

I have a music based website and would like to be up to date with the latest EE so that I can make use of new web based technologies as they emerge.

I had my website built using EE1 and though it is still relavant I feel that the e-commerce area of my site to be limiting.

I am investigating whether upgrading to 2.0 will give me better options with shopping carts to utilise a better e-commerce solution offering music downloads and giveaway music downloads etc.

One area of concern is the upgrading from EE1 to EE2 is the various modules I am using in EE1 will they work in EE2.0 I Have listed the modules currently installed below.

It seems as if the newer shopping carts (Brilliant retail & Cart throb) are based on the newer EE2 and would it be worth me upgrading now than leaving me in a situation where I have to upgrade anyway in the near future. Budget is an issue for me and I need to choose the most economical option.

    Thank you Kelli.

    Hi Kelli:

The add-ons listed have EE2 versions.  Upgrade to the most current versions of EE and forum and get your skill set moving forward with excellent EE support.  Then add the EE built in simple e-commerce [or the commercial e-commerce add-ons] to take the edge off the financial with a revenue stream.  User transition from EE1x to EE 2.13 is not a problem now.  It remains a developer challenge to port some addons from EE1x to EE2.13.

I see the Photo Gallery in your list.  EE2 does not have a photo gallery module, and currently there is no way to automatically port your EE1 gallery to EE2 (although it is being worked on).

If your most driving need is for eCommerce there is http://cartthrob.com/ - which has had a great reception from the EE community.

Not to knock EE2 (it’s what I’m doing any and all new work) on but if there isn’t a true business driver for the upgrade then it may just amount to busy work for no real gain.  EE1 is a solid platform yet and still being supported with bug fixes by EllisLab.
