I have uploaded an extension to my third party folder and it doesn’t appear in the extensions section. I enabled extensions and it shows as such in the config file. Also debugging is enabled. Any other reason why the extension wouldn’t display?

Make sure it is within its own folder within the /third_party/ folder and not just in the /third_party/ folder by itself.

It does have it’s own folder… any other ideas?

This is silly but are you sure it is an extension and not a plugin or something else?
Also, what extension is it?

It has a ext. in front of the interior folders filename.
ext.kapost_byline.php

As a test, I’d try to put another extension that is more common and see if it shows up. Go to devot-ee.com and find one (http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/filter/?t=ext). If that one shows up then you know extensions work, meaning your particular extension is the problem.
If one you download from there doesn’t show up then there is another problem…

So you definitely have the ext.kapost_byline.php in a folder called kapost_byline in the system > expressionengine > third_party folder?
Also have you tried contacting the developer of that extension to see what they have to say about it?
One last thing to ask would be, is this definitely an extension written for the 2.x branch? If not then it will need to be updated in order for it to work.
Best wishes,
Mark

Phire_SK and Mark give excellent advice. Definitely check if other extensions work, and if this extension is made for EE 2 or EE 1. Let us know, and we can continue to help out.
Thanks guys!
