My original website is still running on EE 1.6. When EE 2.x was released, I created a number of other sites under EE 2 using the Multiple Site Manager.

The time has now come for the original site still running on EE 1.6 to be migrated into the main EE 2 install.

I’ve read docs for updating, but I haven’t found anything about adding an existing 1.6 site to an existing 2.x site.

Are there any resources on this anywhere? Or, ... how can I do this? 😊

    Thanks,

    Ian

    Hi, Ian,

Unfortunately, there is no way to move an EE installation into an MSM site in another installation - version not withstanding.  What you would need to do is export your data and possibly use something like DataGrab to import that into your EE 2 MSM Site.

    Does that help?

Would it be unnecessary to perform an update from 1.6.6 to 2.1.3 at all then, if I were to use a tool like DataGrab?

From my quick glance at the Addon page, it looks like it accepts basically freeform data. Therefore, no difference in importing EE 1.6.6 exported content or 2.x exported content?

I ask because I’m mid-way through getting the 1.x site upgraded, but have hit a snag there:

If I basically have to start over by exporting/importing anyway, then I’ll just abandon the upgrade attempt.

    Hi, Ian -

Correct, because you’d be exporting the data into the format you need for DataGrab you wouldn’t need to upgrade that installation.

IF you do abandon the upgrade attempt, please post that in the thread as well, so that we can close it out.  But yes, if you need to move this to an MSM Site on an EE 2 installation, I’d proceed with export/import instead.
