Russian characters not converting properly

    Greetings.

We have setup a fairly extensive initial list of languages available on our site, using the Simple Translator extension. So far, it works incredibly. However, we have run into a few glitches when dealing with the Russian language.

We’re not terribly surprised. The Russian language contains very specific, unique characters and glyphs. It works perfectly for any body content, but certain titles don’t seem to translate properly.

    Example:

    http://www.mpechicago.com/coffee/technology/

In English, note the first sub-head, “Super Homogenizer”, and in Russian the text is: “Гомогенизатор в&”. This is incorrect. It is flowed into the title field within it’s entry as “Гомогенизатор высочайшего класса”. Something happens where it gets cut off. I’ve tried different variations, however this happens in quite a few other entry titles.

My theory is the body content translates properly because I have it set as Textile within the Admin, and thus automatically converts any characters into their ASCII counterparts, whereas titles don’t have that luxury. But with that said, it’s strange how some work and some don’t.

Any help is appreciated. Not really sure where to go at this point…

You do have the option of creating a Russian title field and set that to be a text field, and use Textile with that. Would that be an option for you?

Sue: Thank you for your response. I must have missed this when you first posted! Just now circling back…

That’s a simple solution, and I believe that could work. Going to try it out. Thank you!
