Since we started using EE2 we have built almost every site as a fresh build.  However the first time we did it we actually did an upgrade and we did not realize we needed to remove the old addons, etc beforehand.  It was very difficult to get the site to work because of that but we eventually managed to fix it, or so we thought.  However, after we launched it we started having memory leakage problems from that particular site only.  Our other EE2 sites are fine but even after removing almost every php script that could be causing issue we still use 5 or 6 times as much memory per connection on this site.  After much research and testing our team at Rackspace and I both feel there is a problem with the upgrade of the actual site.  I need to know if this is possible or if there is something we can do to fix it?  Have you heard of any issue like this before.  We aren’t running anything more than we were running on EE1 at this point and we still have massive memory usage.  To keep our servers up we have load balanced them and doubled the memory but there is still something just not quite right.  I really need some help in understanding where the process may have gone wrong.  When we looked at our DB we had tables from both ee1 and ee2 so we removed the ee1 tables but nothing seems to matter.  Do you have any idea what might be going on with this?

    tori,

When you upgrade an EE1.x site to EE2.x site it doesn’t duplicate tables and leave the legacy ones. It actually upgrades your EE1.x tables to EE2.x tables so I can’t say why you would have another set of tables in there.

Did you reinstate upgraded add-ons after your upgrade?

However, after we launched it we started having memory leakage problems from that particular site only.

Can you explain how this affected you? In particular was there any errors on the site or was it warnings from your host in that respect?

Are you referring to PHP memory or actual physical server memory
How much PHP memory do you have?

From what you are saying it would sound like our upgrade did not go right.  We had tables in there from both weblog and channel.  We definitely did not lose any of our EE1 data.

The memory leakage started to continually bring the server completely down after we launched the EE2 version.  From there we put it load balancing and more memory just to keep it up.  However research shows we are still suing way too much memory.

I’m extremely concerned with what you’ve said that the upgrade processed might have caused a problem that we may not be able to fix without fresh install.

    Hi, Tori -

    You said:

It would help a great deal to know which tables were left behind.

Also, if you look at the exp_sites table - do you see readable information or does it look somewhat like gobbledygook?

    Thanks!
