    I have been trying to move my site from one host to another (engine hosting to lithium hosting) and have not been successful at being able to get it to show up. I get, “Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.” I have tried to add “/system” at the end as well and get, “Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open the following file and correct this: index.php”

    i am new to EE and looking for all the help and support and questions to ask me to help solve what i am doing wrong/overlooking. It seems like an easy problem that I am not seeing what I am missing, so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Info:
    - The current version of ExpressionEngine is v2.1.0 Build 20110411
    - Non-Commercial License
    - MySQL client version: 5.1.56

    Thanks,
    derrick

    Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, derrickkempf.

    First things first.

    Let’s have you run the Server Wizard to make sure the new site meets our requirements.

    okay, so i ran the wizard and came up with this:

    Index of /ee_server_wizard

      * Parent Directory
      * README.TXT
      * ee_wizard/

    i clicked on the “ee-wizard/” link and then received this message:

    Internal Server Error

    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

    Please contact the server administrator,——and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    so, this is where i’m at. i have also been able to run the installation wizard on a previous attempt and was almost successful, but kept receiving the same message that the sql username and/or password were wrong. not sure why.

    thanks,
    derrick

    Hi, derrick.

    That means the username and or password are not correct. Have you contacted your host for the correct information?

    When I try and re-upload the installation wizard via FTP and try to navigate to it form firefox i get a 403… Directory access is forbidden.

    I changed the folders and index.html/index.php permissions to be 777 and still nothing. i’m really not sure what is going on now.

    what do you think?

    derrickkempf,

    At this stage I would contact your host and explain the situation to them and see if they can help the issue.

    We will keep this thread open for you and will be able to answer any question your host may have

    ok so i forget where i left off because i forgot to post about the next steps that i took, but basically i have been trying to simple for the proper steps for moving to another server and i have been unsuccessful.

    from my host, “we’ve never heard of ee before, we wouldn’t even know where to start. we can’t offer any support for that.”

    what a shame. oh well, i have moved the updated database to the new server and changed the config.php and database.php files and turned on the error logging messages so that i hopefully get some other insight into what is going on and i get, “A Database Error Occurred, Unable to select the specified database:...”

    this is when i try and navigate to the domain name.

    i feel stuck.

    Hi, derrickkempf.

    What I recommend is that you run the Server Wizard and make sure you have the right setup to run EE. This includes your database. Let’s get that working first.

    ok so i ran the server wizard and i got a message that said this directory does not exist. then i changed the preferences to 777 and i got:

    Index of /ee_server_wizard

      * Parent Directory
      * README.TXT
      * ee_wizard/

    after that i clicked on “ee_wizard/” and received this message:

    Internal Server Error

    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

    Please contact the server administrator, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Derrick,

    Moving an EE site (or any such CMS, for that matter) is not something which is easy to do without a very knowledgeable host or administrator.

    Your host does not have to be familiar with EE, but they do have to be smart! They should be able to help you by at least running the server wizard and seeing what it is looking for.

    BTW, I have moved servers a couple of times with relatively few problems - but my admin knows what he is doing (not with EE, but with general php/mysql) and had the two setups (old and new) in sync using migration tools and rsync, etc…....so I could test the new one, and then when the time came to move we simply shut down for 10-20 minutes to make sure no posts were made during the move over…..

    But without a good admin to help you….I’m afraid you are going to have a long hard slog…......
    At least for starters, try to point your browser directly to the EE server wizard index page (index.php) instead of the directory…..
    If you don’t know exactly how to do that - it’s probably time to call in the pros…..

    Thanks Craig.

    Derrick, is your host willing to help you determine why the Server Wizard doesn’t work? It’s a relatively simple PHP app; not really a part of EE at all. It sounds like something may be misconfigured on the server.

    awsome! it worked. got some good support through my host. they ran the wizard and found that i had some permissions set to 777 that were not supposed to be. the only weird thing is that they have MySQL Version 5.1 support in PHP standard, but in the wizard it says that it’s not supported. they still haven’t responded yet, but just wanted to report back.

    i still want to keep this open to see what they say.

    Hi Derrick,

    The wizard is reporting “No” due to the error at the bottom - Unable to connect to your database server. That means you’ve got some incorrect information for the database connection: either the username, password, hostname, or database name. Your host should be able to help you with those settings as well. Once that works, the same settings can be used in system/expressionengine/config/database.php in ExpressionEngine.
