    Sue

I see the difference but dont understand what that has to do with the problems we are experiencing with this site.  I sent a PM to you with specific details of the site and if you or anyone else can help, I and the client would be grateful !

    Thanks
    Ian

    Ian,

the problem that I currently have is that if I click on any of the menu items the url changes to what it should be, but the content stays exactly the same which is the homepage content.

I see the difference but dont understand what that has to do with the problems we are experiencing with this site.

Sue was giving you a possible solution to your problem you explained above. Your server requiring query strings in your URLs generates this exact issue you are having.

Do a test. Click on one of your menu items and not in the URL in your browser manually add the query string yourself where Sue has indicated. Does the page come up for you?

    Hi

Thanks for the help and it looks like this may have something to do with it but isnt the whole story as the content is still not showing.  The url’s that are shown dont have the index.php in them at all as this is rewritten using the .htaccess file so they appear like http://www.domain.com/gallery as an example

    Any more ideas please ?

    Thanks
    Ian

    Hi Ian,

Let’s get everything working without an .htaccess file first. Please rename it temporarily, which will disable it. Then in Admin > General Configuration, set your site’s index page back to “index.php”. Try John Henry’s test again and let us know what effect that has.

    Hi Brandon

Have renamed the .htaccess and also made the change for the site’s index page and again it seems to have made some difference but a lot is still not working.

Would you or somebody else be able to look at the site and see if you can work or what is going on.  Not having any knowledge of EE and getting no help at all from the old host means that the site is still down.  Would be happy to provide an admin login and FTP details via PM to somebody from EE if you are happy to look at this level of detail.

Please be aware that the site is of an adult nature although it is not porn - in fact it does not even have any nudity.  Site can be accessed via http://www.antonia-davenshaw.com/index.php

I have noticed that there is a mix of using antonia-davenshaw.com and antoniadavenshaw.com domains in the urls - this seems a strange way to configure a site and obviously would be a problem now that the .htaccess has been renamed

    Thanks
    Ian

Ian, it could be a quick fix, so before we do that, can you determine how the links in the navigation are being generated? Are they hard-coded or constructed using EE tags? If so, which tag? They are simply missing the index.php part of the URL.

  • #37 / Apr 28, 2011 5:26am

Hi - How would I determine that please ?  Please bear in mind that I know nothing about EE !

    Thanks

    Hi Ian,

I looked around and some of these issues just stem from improper design (to be blunt). First, in the Templates tab, the “mast” template in the “globals” group wasn’t using the path parameter to generate links everywhere. I fixed this.

Then, a lot of those pages are actually pulling from weblog entries, using the Pages module. On the Pages tab for each entry, the URI wasn’t correct so I went and corrected those. At this point most of the pages are working, albeit with broken images, which brings us to the third problem.

For some reason, when editing entries the editable fields aren’t expanding, which makes it difficult to correct the image paths. That’s something we’re looking at and we’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience!

    Hi Brandon

Many thanks for the update and please dont worry about being blunt - I didnt design this system and by the sound of it, it is no wonder that I couldnt work out what was going on.

Thanks for the work you have done so far and I look forward to hearing from you soon !

    Ian,

Ok I think you are still missing some files. In the other site I believe the extension Fieldframe was used.

Along with Fieldframe you are also going to need the EE1.x versions of ngen File Field, Wygwam and Matrix as these were all installed on previous site

Would it be possible to ask for the system/extensions folder and the system/language folder from the old company?

It will be considerable difficult from here on in to get this working with the latest version of those add-ons I believe. You will also need to pay for some of them. You may even need to get an EE professional to have a look at hooking up these extensions again as it would be going outside the scope of support here. I could say that by just uploading the relevant files after purchasing it will all work again but I don’t know for sure. Version updates and newer features being the biggest culprit here

Having those 2 folders would solve all that.

    Hi John

The old system folder is already loaded and is sitting at the public_html directory and ends -old-system hopefully everything that you need will be in there

    Thanks
    Ian
