    Hi,

Our client is setup as a separate member group with many of the same privledges as our Super Admin account. This includes the ability to manage member accounts via the CP. From time to time, a request will come in to reset a member password manually. We’ve always been able to do this logged in as a super admin. However, our client is not having the same success.

Just as we do as the super admin, they have tried the following steps:

    1. They login with their account,
    2. Visit the “view members” page
    3. Click on appropriate member
    4. Visit “Personal Settings -> Username and Password”
    5. Fill in “new password” “confirm new password” and then enter their own password into the “Your existing password” field.

After doing this, an error fires reading “The password you submitted was not correct.”

Why would the same process work for super admins, but not for a user with the proper privledges?

    jtnick,

You do not have to fill in Your existing password field if a SuperAdmin

When your client is doing it he will need to fill this in but make sure it is the members existing password he is filling in and not this own

    Hi,

I have a similar problem in that I need to allow a particular member group (similar to SuperAdmin, but with less privileges) to access a member account from the control panel and update the password without confirming the existing.

Is this possible or would I need to root into the code?

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,

That is not possible. Only superadmins are able to change passwords without knowing the existing password. You might look into seeing if there is an add-on available that does that.

I am also looking for a solution to this issue. Has anyone come up with one without changing core EE files?

    Hello mediasauce,

Thank you for posting your question here on the ExpressionEngine forums.

I do not believe that there is any progress on this one.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Cheers,

Has this been submitted as a feature request?

I am in a similar position, where I do not want to give others full super admin access to the site, but I do want to give them control over member functions such as reseting passwords
