I am trying to install a local instance of the Expression Engine 2.x product on my Mac using the most recent build of MAMP. I have created a database, changed the file permissions per the instructions in the installation manual, but I get this error message when I try to install:

    A Database Error Occurred
Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.

    Filename: controllers/wizard.php

    Line Number: 1450

    « Back

Any ideas? In MAMP, the database user is root with no password, and I have admin privileges on my local machine.

I am stumped. I tried the alterations suggested in another thread edit the TYPE= constants in a few files, and I still get the same error.

    ???

Thanks! That was all it was. I did still have to use the modified files suggested in the other thread. When I do Wordpress installs using mamp, the root user has no password. Go figure.
