I am trying to integrated the site I am developing with a third party site that will both use the url spit out by EE2. However I am noticing that the {url_title} is being limited to 75 characters. Since I need to be able to have my editors easily tell what the url title will be I can’t have this limitation in order for this to work?

Does anyone know where this is set?

    Thanks!

    Hi Luke,

The length of the url_title is not determined by a setting within the CP, it is fixed within the code. I would not recommend (and we could not support) hacking the core. However, if you wish to pursue that then I think you would want to look at the system/expressionengine/libraries/Api.php file on or around line 179.

    Cheers

Take a look at this extension - CE Longer Titles as I believe it may help out here.

I’m fairly certain there’s another one that does this same sort of thing too and perhaps to even more places in the system but I can’t remember the name of that one at the moment. If I do remember the name then I’ll post back here with it as soon as I remember.

    Best wishes,

And no sooner than I post that it comes to my noggin’ 😉

    Kyara

I knew I’d remember it but didn’t think it would be that fast!! 😊 That said I don’t think this one works on the url_title. I might be mistaken though.

Unfortunately CE Longer Titles doesn’t work as the creator had planned it can adjust the limit of the title but not the url. :(

And Kyara does not limit the url characters either.

I think it would be wise if EE would at least make the limits for the Title and the Url title the same?

    Thoughts?

I just tried out CE Longer Titles and it worked fine for me on the url_title. I increased to 100 in my test and it allowed me to place more characters in there. In fact I just tested 1000 characters and it worked too.

In what way didn’t it work for you?

    Best wishes,

That is odd. I am running v2.1.3 is that what you are running as well?  I will try it again.

    Thanks for your input!

Ah sorry yep guess I should have mentioned I’m using 2.1.4 although I could swear I’d tried this out on 2.1.3 as well. Perhaps my memory is mistaken on that though.

    Best wishes,

Okay. Do be careful that 2.1.4 is still in beta so if this is a production site you’re working on? you might want to hold off until 2.1.4 is out of beta. Saying that 2.1.4 does feel a lot more stable to me.

    Best wishes,

thanks for the heads up… I will most likely sideline the url_title project until i can test in a full release 2.1.4

    Thanks much!
