    Hello!

I have written to you before, and got very good help, regarding information before I switch from WordPress to the more flexible ExpressionEngine.

Unfortunately I have just stayed with WP and still use it, but now I am so tired of trying to tweak WP to what I want my websites to look like, so NOW I am going to buy EE.

I want more flexibility, and instead of tweaking WP with all kind of plugins, I want a system that is flexible by default. Therefore I want EE.

I just have one question (and I hope it is not too general/diffusely): For a person like me, who is not an expert, but have a basic understanding of HTML, and know how to tweak some of WP’s code and the plugins, do you think it will take long time before I can recreate one of my websites in EE? Here is one of my websites now (and I am not happy with it): http://www.musikksakk.no/

Maybe I even want something more simple than that, just a neutral website, with mostly static pages and discrete design, but where the variations are more shown in how the content is presented in different looking sections. So it is mainly text, with some pictures here and there.

I came from a similar background and it didn’t take too long for me. There are so many helpful resources out there for beginners, you shouldn’t have a problem, and the EE forums is an amazing place to get help.

http://mijingo.com/ is a great place to start for some good tutorials.
Anything from Boyink - http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/books/detail/building-an-expressionengine-2-site-small-business/ (There are a lot of free resources on his site as well)

These should help get you started. What you’ll find, (at least what I found), once you get your head around the ideas of Channels, the posibilites are endless on what you can do, and its really exciting.

    Thanks for the assist, blendimc.

    Great list of resources.

Asle, there is also a method for converting WordPress entries to EE entries. It’s a third party add-on calledDataGrab.

Let us know if you need more information. We (the community) will be here.

Good to hear that we share the same background. And you have right: Learning is doing!

Great and useful links! I will use them now in the learning process.
