Hi Brandon,
That’s cool, but it’s not the same. To most people - refunds are just cumbersome. This in combination with there not being any freely downloadable community version is especially clumsy.
To summarize:
BEFORE I could download the free community edition and install on my own server. I could also pay $10 and get a server with everything setup and ready to go within seconds.
NOW I must either BUY a license and install it on my own box or for simplicity I could sign up for at least 3 months of recurring billing with enginehosting.com to get EE setup for me (if I had no technical skills). I actually signed up for a new Enginehosting server 10 hours ago and I still haven’t heard anything back other than the automated email saying my order has been received.
I’m sure the Enginehosting people will reply to me once the US wakes up again (they’re really good on support, that’s why I use them) but this not the same as thinking “maybe I should try this ExpressionEngine-thing RIGHT NOW” when they have a few precious minutes to spare. I recently did a presentation for my User Group on EE and got many of them interested. I know you lost quite a few of those from making it hard for them to get started. I sure hope you realize how different this is and how hard this makes it to get started with EE?
