OK, this should be relatively simple to answer and I’m sure I will feel like a complete noob once answered, but in the meantime, I am unable to figure it out.

I am running, on this build 1.6.8 with MSM, and have a site that I just added. I turned the site off in the Admin panel on the CP. All of my other sites are fine. I updated my system offline template for this site to reflect under construction. So far so good…

The problem is that once I enter the CP and start developing templates, when I attempt to review/view them, I only see the under construction template display.

Am I missing a step here that would allow me to build out the logic in my templates prior to turning on the site?

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Brian

    Hi, Brian.

I’ll bet you’re logged into the backend with www or without www in your site name, and when visiting the front end, you’re not using www or are using www. (In other words, the opposite way of referring to your site.)

You can fix this one of three ways:

    1. Always use either www or non-www versions of your sitename in the control panel or the front end.

    2. Login to the backend using the same scheme as the frontend. Use cookies only.. that way you’re logged into either.

    3. Set the cookie domain to your site. Use a period (full stop) in front of your url.

    Example: .example.com

    See the attached screen shot.

    Does that help?

    Sue,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, that didn’t change anything.

See my screen shots for step by step visuals and system settings…

    Here are my cookie settings…

    And my System Prefs…

Then from the control panel, my template…

    Sue,

    Continued…

when I click the ‘view’ on template from the control panel, I am sent to a redirect link…
    <image>

From there, I am shown the under construction page which is set as my ‘System Offline Template’
    <image>

This is also what I see when I visit the ‘www.workflowgeeks.com’ and the ‘workflowgeeks.com’.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again,

    Brian

    Brian,

Did you add the cookie domain for both sites?

Under your Security and Session Preferences what do you have set for Control Panel Session Type?
Admin > System Preferences > Security and Session Preferences
make it cookies only if it isn’t already

What version of MSM are you using?

    John,

I had the CP set to cookies and session. I changed it over, but the results are the same.

MSM is the latest release. I just added this site to the license and downloaded the most recent for this build a couple of days ago.

    Any other ideas?

    Brian

    Brian,

Just a final few questions here before we take a deeper look

Did you add the cookie domain for both sites?
Would it be possible for you to upgrade to the latest release, EE1.7?
While it may not be the solution sometimes there are issues if your don’t have a matching pair of both EE and MSM

Do you use a masked login for either site?

    John,

When you say “Did you add the cookie domain for both sites?”, I am confused… I only have one site for this domain.

Unfortunately, I cannot upgrade to 1.7 at this time. We are soon moving everything to EE2 and it is simply not worth the time and possible problems that may occur in between migration.

I do not use a masked login for either site. There is no access to the site except for CP access.

Brian, you *are* using MSM, so you need to set the value for both sites, even though you aren’t allowing the secondary site to be visible by non logged in users.

Each MSM has its own setting for Cookie domain.

Does that make any more sense?
