    Hi @ all

I want to update to version 2.1.3, downloaded all the new files and followed the update instructions. slot: the update instructions are to common for me!

when I want to udpate, the update wizard asks me for some information about database-name, database-user, password, and if I would like to set up an empty database or agile records.

I do not trust the update wizard, I have never seen these steps before. why is he asking about this information, I only want to update, not install a new system!

Can I a proceed and give this information? afterwards my database is not empty?

for shure I have created fully file and database backup, but anyway, this update process with sentences “new install” is a little bit weird for me.

please calm me down, so I can proceed and update to the newest verion!

    thx, thomas

    Hi, Thomas.

In order to update to EE 2.1.3, do the following:

Make a backup copy of your database. Are you comfortable with how to do this?

    Have you seen: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update.html

    Hi Sue

I wrote in my post, that I did a backup of my database 😊

    My question is:

When I go to http://www.mywebsite.ch/system, the update wizard is shown…but why I have to give information about my database, user and password and why I have to select if I want to create an empty database or “agile records”...

that seems, that the update will create an empty database and afterwards I have to insert my backup database, am I right?

During the upgrade process, you rename your existing /themes and /system folder, and replace them with the newer versions.

Once you do that, you then put back your /system/expressionengine/config/config.php and database.php file from your renamed folder, and add in any third_party items from earlier both in the /themes folder and in /system/expressionengine/third_party.

*Then* when you visit your /system folder, you won’t get prompted for your login details. Does that help?
