PS - I’ve been in business for over fifteen years and was doing professional web development before there was a name for it.  But thanks for the business lesson anyway.

Then you’re also aware that anyone that’s paying you for services is the boss. Doesn’t matter if you have your own official company or not. Try and tell one of your clients “This is how it’s going to because this is the way I want it done.” without justification. The client, aka the boss, is going to “fire” you. By that I mean go somewhere else for the services they’re looking for.

What you call your “staff”...freelancer, independent developer, even co-worker doesn’t matter what so ever. When it comes down to simplest terms. The one receiving the check is not the one in charge, nor are they equal.

Based off the scenario that you presented you would be the “boss”. The only difference between an actual employee and a freelance/contractor is who pays what taxes, the commitment of consistent cash flow, and options after termination of services (unemployment, severance, ect).

Just so you know I’m not taking side because as I said before I do not know either of you. I’m just providing an objective point of view from someone who has been on both sides of the fence.

I think I’m done posting in this thread. Take what I’ve said as you wish, I was only trying to be helpful. 😊

    Ed,

Even though we haven’t entirely been on the same wavelength in this instance, you’ve said what you had to say very well indeed.  You seem like a cool dude and it’s been a pleasure locking horns with you you - if I can use such a crude phrase.

    As for the other stuff…

Well, the funny thing is I don’t think there’s a single person on the planet who cares about the details of that conversation.  Not one.

So, sod it.  There shall be no conflicting response.

I’m a nice guy.  A gentleman.  Sophisticated, educated, in control, unshakable in my calmness and my overall peace loving general vibe.

So, with dignity and grace I really am moving on from this conversation.  I’ve said everything that I have to say and I’m satisfied with every word of it.

You sure seemed to think contrary when you “threatened” me to post the entire conversation here in the forum, as if I’m worried about that.  I have the transcript too, David.  I know what was said, and I know who would look the fool if it were posted here.

As far as whether or not you’re finished with this, I certainly hope you are.  Although, you did say that earlier too, so I guess we’ll see.

    Have a wonderful life, buddy!

I agree.  Until, that is, things don’t go the way you want them to and you realize you can’t quite manipulate a person as you thought you could.

It’s never a good idea to pick a fight with someone who is clearly trying very hard to walk away from a fight.

    Do you agree?

I don’t want to take sides but I think it’s obvious that developer13 made the right call from the way this topic has degraded so quickly.

Not really related to this post. But, food for thought… or at least a compass when picking developers, clients and designers.

It’s very “business-like” for a businessman to take it to a public forum when the deal doesn’t go his way. What the hell are you trying to prove by telling everybody on here that the guy turned you down? He turned you down. Deal with it. If you don’t like the way he turned you down, tell him to go f… himself, but in private.

To tell you the truth I think his gut feeling was right on the money. Here’s another business lesson: don’t go to the public opinion when your offer gets turned down. Take some time to think about why your offer got turned down. Maybe the guy said what he said because on a rational level he knew your offer was bs but he couldn’t find the words on the spot.
