I’m curious if anyone has had experience with developing either an IOS and/or Android app that interfaces with EE allowing users to post data to EE (which remains editable from the CP and or a SAEF)?

I’m curious what your experience was like? How many hurdles you had to jump though? And if, in an honest moment, you’d say it was worth the effort or if another tool would work better?

    Thanks!

other than “Mobile Theme” that comes with EE.

@Lebisol - Hey, thanks for replying. Without a doubt, very helpful info; but I should clarify, I’m less interested in CP access and more curious in the possibility of allowing sites members the option/ability to update entries from an app. Not even sure if this is something that is reasonable to expect as being possible. I wanted to see if anyone had even looked at attempting this.

Ah I see, perhaps the above themes can be tweaked to support SAEF?
They wold not be ‘true apps’ but might be something you can adjust for better presentation on mobile device.
Funny how these pocket computers are becoming relevant web access devices. 😊

Seems these apps are limited to the functionality made available thru the Metaweblog and Movable Type API’s.

EEInsider - While you can use custom fields (you match them to basic Metaweblog API-supported fields), you cannot use specialized fields like Relationships, Playa, Matrix, checkboxes etc. This limitation is in the Metaweblog API implementation; even MarsEdit doesn’t support this functionality.

Seems quite limited which is kind of a bummer.

Ultimately, what I’m looking to do is to allow a user, via an ap, the ability to enter information to an already existing entry.

This may be the kind of requirement that rules out EE for a project. Not too sure at this point. Just doing my due diligence.

I think this is still untapped source.
Others are working on it -> http://android.wordpress.org/
or maybe roll up on SAEF with http://jquerymobile.com/.

Sorry Michael am I just dropping some bookmarks and have not looked at it seriously.

    jQuery Mobile looks real nice!

Check out a few jQuery Mobile tutorials.

    I like this explanation.

Also with the recently released Safecracker (free) you might just be able to accomplish what you were hoping.
