I went into modules and didn’t find the discussion forum. I downloaded and uploaded both the expressions engine and discussion forum downloads. Now when I click on modules I get this message.

    Error

Unable to load the following language file:

    lang.forum_cp.php

I’m on GoDaddy hosting. ExpressionEngine version 1.7.0.

    Greetings Preacher/Creature!

Can you please confirm that you do you have a file called lang.forum_cp.php in your system/language/english directory?

Hi, Preacher. EE doesn’t come with that particular language file. Are you trying to use some sort of third party theme?

  • #6 / Mar 10, 2011 11:41am

No, the only thing I’ve ever used at Wedgewood.net is expressionengine without anything else.  The only part of expression engine we use is the discussion forum.  No third party add ons, etc.

    Thank you

Just to clarify here. You had EE installed and went to the Modules tab and didn’t see the Forum listed?
Did you have it installed previously? Or had just purchased it and were looking to install it for the first time?
When you say you uploaded EE what do you mean? Did you do a build or version update?

Did you follow the Forum installation docs here

I purchased EE and the Discussion Forum years ago.  We used only for discussion forum.  We had many posts in forums.  I’m trying to keep those posts.  When I was actively monitoring the forums I was able to login and see the discussion module, etc.  Years later when I forgot my login info I emailed EE and got the response below

    Hi Chris,

You should be able to get to your downloads once you’re logged in to your ExpressionEngine account as you mentioned being able to do so. (It is the same account you used to log in to the forum)

Just log in and then go to “My purchases” in this location:

    https://secure.expressionengine.com/download.php

Your account will need to be up to date as ExpressionEngine 1.x licenses requires a download renewal each year for $19.95. You can read more about the download renewal here: http://expressionengine.com/sales_faq/article/do_i_have_to_buy_a_new_license_every_year/

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Whatever this download was I ftped.  Just uploaded to the site the first time to “the same folders.”  The second time I did follow the insturctions (or at least I think I did.)

I’m concerned that you’re being asked for a language file that just doesn’t exist in the forum that’s for EE1.7.0. What version of EE did you upgrade from?

  • #12 / Mar 11, 2011 7:16pm

So I got frustrated and wiped everything off my server except database backup.  As it turns out, the email I got from Expression Engine took me to my old version.

So I don’t think I ever got a new/updated version from the link provided.  So I searched around and found upgrade and paid $50 for latest version of Expression Engine and the module was free.

I uploaded expression engine with ftp.

I uploaded discussion forum with ftp following directions for new install.

How do I get to control panel?

Have I gone down another wrong path?

    Preacher/Creature,

To confirm, you just forgot the login info to your own control panel right? Or was it for the EE site?
The official response you got from Leslie was for the the actual EE website and forums not your own control panel and forum details

What you have now is a database backup of EE1.x
Have you got a backup of what you just wiped?

What you uplaoded to your site is EE2.x I believe after paying the upgrade. That database backup wont work with that version of EE

At this stage as you have gone so far we need to know if you have all your files backed up or if not if your host has a backup of them?

Please don’t attempt anything else without asking here first for a course of action

I erased everything except database backups file.

At this point, I’m ready to start from scratch.  If the discussion forum posts can be imported, etc. great, if not, we’ll start from scratch.

OK, when you say start from scratch, do you mean *completely* from scratch, no older posts, templates, etc?
