Does anyone have any suggestions for building a Micro Site based website. I want to build an EE site that allows admins of the site with access, the ability to manage their own portion of the site.

Basically each admin would have there own home page, with the ability to log in via the EE CMS and edit content on this page. It’s possible there would be content on this page from many sections (weblogs) within EE but I want it so the admin can only see and edit their own entries within these sections (weblogs).

The site I want to build is for a chain of shops. So each shop manager (admin) would need to be able to log into the EE CMS and edit their home page. I was hoping the URL would be something like ‘www.shop.co.uk/shops/shop_name’.

Also along with this there would be a user group for the generic site which would be general for the whole chain of shops. A standard text site with News, Company Information etc… Only the owner of the chain would have access to this, not the shop managers.

This is a bit vague and I am not sure if I have explained the concept very well but if any one can offer any guidance with this problem I would appreciate it.

Are the individual shops under the same ownership?  Or are they franchises?  You might want to run the situation past EllisLab sales just to ensure you are OK from a licensing approach.

Otherwise setup a member group that gives the shop folks access to all the necessary weblogs, but only allow them to see the entries they’ve authored.  Allow their member accounts to be listed in the author drop-down on the publish page.  Then set them as author on the entries they need access to.

Yes same ownership but I will talk to EE sales about it.

    Many thanks for your reply.

but only allow them to see the entries they’ve authored.

    1. Where about within the EE CP would a be able to set this, so that members can only see entries on the EDIT page they have authored?

Then set them as author on the entries they need access to.

    2. Does this mean the admin would have to manage every entry on the site setting it to the appropriate author manually, or would new entries by a member automatically set them as the author, there by only that member will be able to see the entries they have authored as discussed in question 1.?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Those settings are found when you create & configure a member group.

You can configure the member group to allow new entries into specific channels, then only be able to see, edit, delete entries that they’ve authored.

    Thanks that’s a great help.

How would I handle the URL concept of each shop having it’s own slug.

So if I have ‘Shop 1’, ‘Shop 2 and ‘Shop 3’ and I wanted each to have it’s own home page at…

    http://www.shop.co.uk/shops/shop_1
    http://www.shop.co.uk/shops/shop_2
    http://www.shop.co.uk/shops/shop_3

How would I get EE to use a generic template for a shop home page. But when the shop is pointed to in the URL as above, only entries authored by the member associated with the shop show?

Would ‘shop_1’, ‘shop_2’ have to be the member’s user name for this to work?

Just can’t get my head round how I would create a generic template for the shop homepage but also change the pages based on a URL ... can’t figure if or how a URL with ‘/shop_1’ or ‘/shop_2’ at the end would work?

You’d have a shops template group, and the index template would be used.  “shop1” etc will be the url_title of the entry containing the specific shop information.

I am hoping to have many weblogs within each home page, so there would be many entries not just one for ‘shop_1’. How do I get round that one?

    Why many weblogs?

Honestly…I’d recommend building out a small site with EE first to get comfy with how channels/entries/template
Groups and templates work before tackling a large/more complex site.

Well each shop will have it’s own ‘news’ and ‘cafe menu’ etc… so I was hoping to say create a weblog for ‘news’ and one for ‘cafe menu’, then pull into ‘shop 1’s home page it’s ‘news’ entries and ‘cafe menu’ entries and into ‘shop 2’s’ home page it’s associate entries etc…

So in essence I end up with micro home pages for each shop with a sensible URL as described in earlier posts.

    What do you think ...

How many shops are we talking here…and once setup how often will more be added?  Is this a franchise arrangement?

It’s starting to sound like these are more robust than I’d normally consider a “micro-site” and more like a possible use of the Multi-site manager, but that would increase the time & effort it will take to create a new site for a new shop.

I really need to hear what EL thinks from a licensing perspective before thinking much harder about an implementation approach.

I will look into it and and post again on this ... I will say that the site is not actually going to be for a shop but for a catering company. They operate by setting up cafe’s in office buildings etc… Basically supplying a complete food and drink offering to businesses fully staffed and ready to go. They have about 20 sites or cafe’s and it is these that I want the home page idea for, so each cafe manager can publish ‘menu of the day’, ‘special offers’ etc… on their designated home page. This just means office workers can check what their cafe has on that day.

I just wanted this to be apart of the main company site with a section like view your cafe sort of thing with links to these pages. I was hoping EE could do this and even though I have build 2 basic EE sites this is quite a challenge for me. I was hoping to get some feedback on the forums to point me in the right direction. I just used the shop concept as I though it would be easier to explain what I was trying to achieve.

many thanks for the post so far they have been helpful.
