hi all! I wasn’t the one who migrated our site from one server to the next, so I can’t speak to specifically what was done. Now, installed modules aren’t working, and the “modules” tab, when clicked, shows a server error. I downloaded and moved the system/modules directory again for good measure, but that didn’t help.

    Here’s the server error:
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://sitename.com/system/index.php?S=c66b691681f17c82547b7de5602584970c629970&C=modules. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly

Any ideas where to turn? Another directory possibly?

    Thanks!

    Hi, julie.

Are you certain you have all the modules you need for this particular site? What third party modules are you using?

    Hi Sue -

I have the site simultaneously running on another server, so I’m sure I have everything up there at least. We had to move servers since the host wasn’t able to resolve a 45second page load time!!! that was before 1 byte was even loaded. Anyway - I have the following 3rd party modules:

    low_nospam
    solspace calendar
    pixel and tonic playa
    solspace rating
    solspace tag
    pixel and tonic wygam

thanks! we’ve copied all the files a second time…

    Hi julie p,

Please check that the system/cp directory is the same as your working version.

    Cheers

Indeed, they are identical, both in location as well as number of files (20 including index.html)

    julie p,

Does your new server meet all our requirements?

I wasn’t the one who migrated our site from one server to the next, so I can’t speak to specifically what was done.

It would be worth finding out how this was done even for your own piece of mind.

As it’s a server error then there must be a log of it. Can you dig this out and it might shed more light on your issue. Your host will be able to help here

Yep, the server definitely meets the requirements. Re: the server log - that’s the first thing I asked for. She said there’s not a log of any errors, which is very odd IMO. I’ll ask about specific steps that were taken to move the site. I do know we produced a db dump for her, so I’m assuming she moved the files over and ported the db… We’ve moved countless EE installs and have never had a problem with this. We actually have several running on this same server for other clients as well. I’m just dumbfounded about this particular issue.

What about the plugins and extensions? Are they all there too?

yep - all the files are up there. I did notice something, however. For “owner” of each file, it says “nobody”, where on the previous installation it had “root” as the owner. Waiting to hear back from my sysadmin on getting that changed. That makes a bit of sense to me…

Yes, this does sounds like a possible permission error. Please let us know when you hear back from the admin, thanks.

switching it from “nobody” to “root” didn’t seem to do the trick. My admin is going to try some more things, but I’m really at a loss on this one…

    Julie,

Did your ‘mover’ use SSH to put al the files up or an FTP client?
Make sure that they were uploaded in the correct Binary/Ascii mode

Can you give our server wizard a run just out of curiosity

Do you have any htaccess in place?

Any mod_security or open_basepath restrictions on the server?

    Hi John -

Here’s what we’ve tried and some answers to your questions:

    1. totally wiped the directory and installed a totally new install of EE 1.6.9. There’s nothing in the system other than the default install. I even reuploaded all files in case she used SSH to move them.
    2. I ran the server wizard, and everything passed as “Yes”, even though we’re running 1.6.9 we should be good with this wizard.
    3. no .htaccess file. default install only
    4. Not sure about the server restrictions but I have a question out to my admin on those.

    How to recreate the error:
When i try to install a module (User from Solspace, for instance), I get a blank page/server error (depends on the browser). I followed the instructions diligently on the install (and have done it many many times without issue). Apparently Apache thinks it is doing its job fine and isn’t logging any errors on this.

other info: php memory limit is 64MB

    This is truly baffling…

finally figured it out. turns out that the fieldframe path was the issue. Having Playa and Wygwam in the modules directory crashed out because of a false path. *whew*
