    I’ve found threads explaining how to do this in EE1 by editing the Publish page but I can’t seem to figure out how to make EE2 auto-generate titles for me. I’m building an Awards section and the only custom fields I need are ‘Award Show’ and ‘Honor’. I would love it if Title could just be pre-populated and/or even hidden from the form.

    Thank you guys!

    I am afraid every entry must have a title. My suggestion would be to look into an SAEF where you could have the title pre-fille automatically, perhaps using a prefix and a timestamp, something like that. Makes sense?

    Just wondering on this one. What would you want the title field pre-populated with?

    Best wishes,

    @Mark

    I’m new to EE so maybe I’m going about it wrong but I just wanted the title to be something consistent across all award entries. So something like award1, award2, etc would be fine with me. All I’m trying to do is store the awards in the database so I can spit them out as an xml template later. The XML gets piped into a Flash site. The output looks like this:

    <award show="Favourite Website Awards">
        <honor name="FWA Site Of The Day" campaign="SomeWebsite.com">
    </award>

    Maybe there is a better way to store content in the DB? Making it into an entry with its own custom fields just seemed like the typical flow to me.

    It looks like the SAEF is deprecated and operates outside of the control panel. If there’s absolutely no way to do this inside of the control panel that’s totally cool with me, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking an easy fix. I can just tell our interns to have fun writing creative titles 😊

    An extension could handle this. Saying that I don’t know if one exists for 2.0

    I wrote one a while back for 1.x and there is another good extension here called - Blis Title Field again not 2.0 though unfortunately.

    If that extension is open source though you might be able to convert it for 2.0 though.

    Best wishes,

    Hi scruffpuff,

    Please have a look at the Default Entry Title and URL Title Prefix as described at the bottom of the Channel Preferences documentation.

    Cheers

    There’s also a new FieldType that Jamie Rumbelow has come up with called SP Title Filler which might be helpful here too.

    hey guys,

    I actually changed the way I’m doing the awards section so that the Title field is now relevant again. But the Default Entry Title and URL Title Prefix in the Channel Preferences look like what I was after. So thanks for the tip Greg :D
