    hello,

for some reason, none of my cp admin log in credentials are sticking… i create a username / password for myself, am able to log in once, maybe twice, and after that, no luck. every time i come back to the cp log in screen and enter my username / password, i am simply dropped back on the log in screen with no errors or any other messaging, forcing me to get a new password generated in order to get into the control panel. it’s driving me crazy! any ideas what could be happening or where i should start to troubleshoot first?

    thanks!

Try clearing cookies and try again.

You might also want to try upgrading to EE 1.7, helps us to rule out file corruption if nothing else.

okay, i will try upgrading—clearing cookies didn’t do the trick, unfortunately.

    thanks!

    Sarah,

In your Security and Session Preferences set your Control Panel Session Type to Cookies only
Admin > System Preferences > Security and Session Preferences

    See if that helps

    hello,

it’s actually already set to ‘cookies only’, and i’m still experiencing trouble with logging in without requesting a new password.

actually, could you explain to me what the difference is between the three options (cookies + session id, cookies only, session id only). i know what a cookie and a session id is—just wondering what that means in terms of how that would effect my login not being recognized.

thanks so much for everyone’s help!

If you still have the problem, try a different browser.

    Hi sarah,

As Lee has suggested, please do test this in another browser. The causes of something like this are variable and could be anything from an incorrectly configured site, a rogue .htaccess rewrite rule, a browser extension or even the browser settings. These may or may not be affected by the different security and sessions settings.

    Cheers

    Greg

    @Lee, thanks for the help.
