When I go to edit a template, the textarea is fairly small, given the average amount of data a template might hold…

    Why isn’t it bigger?

More importantly, If you wanted to make it small, why cant I manually resize it?

Even more importantly, I am using Chrome which has the feature to resize any textarea, and somehow EE disables this, which I don’t even know how to do, ...WHY?

Editing on the back end without use of a text editor is awful, and it doesn’t need to be.

Does anyone know a workaround for this? I have Editee installed but with that is only fullscreen or nothing and i have to click a little button to go back and hit “update.”

If this is in the wrong place, I apologize.

There’s a Tech Support thread about this over here. I’ve shown the line which is the culprit in the CSS file. You could create your own theme file and get rid of it if you like although I really believe that this should be taken out of the default themes as it seems way too restrictive to me.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Best wishes,

    have a look at edit-ee:
    http://webunder.com.au/weblog/editee-code-editor-for-expressionengine/

In short, you can set it up to use as a code highlighter and specify a number of things like font size, textarea size, etc. Works across snippets, templates, etc.

Should make your life easier… Personally i size mine so when i am fullscreen i can still submit the template change!!

very true, i had missed that… but it is not fullscreen or nothing, you can predefine the edit area size in the plugin.
I will also note that with editee installed you cannot resize the area. however, if you turn it off using the toggle then you can resize using the default EE method (the grip area is bottom middle it think). Then toggle it back on. This does not have a memory, but thats why you can predefine it.

Also from my experience Editee comes up very very blurred when used in Safari :-(
