I’m very new to EE, I’m slowly learning the CMS through trila by error. In the end I wan’t to create a site where people can sign up to become members.
I know that EE has a member module, although I’m completely confused on how it works. Perhaps someone can clear up of the following questions I have.

1.)  can I only use the member module with the 2 higher priced versions of EE and not the freelancer version?

2.)  Members of my site will have to be able to Sign up, create a profile, and login in and out. Is this possible with the member module ?

3.)  When and if a member signs up, are they signing up to my site specifically, or are they signing up to a larger EE database? In otherwords; are the memberships site specific?

4.)  And finally if anyone has a site that uses the EE member module I would love to see an example of what it looks like.
    Thanks.

Yes, the Member module is not part of the Freelancer version.

    Absolutely.

Your site only. Nothing shared with third parties.

This site uses it, for starters. I’m sure you’ll find some thing over at show-ee.com.
