I have a client who wants a skill-sharing site in which members can source required skill-sets from other members. Ideally members’ profiles would incorporate a feedback system to record other members’ satisfaction (or lack thereof) in when dealing with them—something akin to eBay’s +ve/-ve/neutral (+ a comment) feedback system.
Site visitors would need to be able to search for members with relevant skills, and view parts of the member’s profile (the bits dealing with skills. They would then be able to contact them with a view to hiring them via the site (or, in actuality, via the site admins acting as intermediaries)
I’m a total newbie when it comes to EE memberships and have not had much luck tracking down the information that I need re. EE’s capabilities in this regard (plenty on how to use individual tags, but no overview of the members module as a whole and what it can do). And so, whilst asking you to excuse my ignorance of these matters, I thought I’d see if anyone here can shed some light. Basically:
1. Can Member profiles be searched (especially if search can be restricted to certain fields) and can they be displayed in the same way that weblog entries can be displayed? (ie. as a list of all profiles, as search results, as a ‘detail’ view of a profile only showing certain fields, etc)
2. Does EE have any mechanism to allow members to contact each other whilst sending a copy of any such communication to the site admins?
3. If this is not out-of-the-box functionality, does anyone know of a third party add-on that might do the job?
