    Hiya,

Was just wondering if anyone has ever set up MAMP Pro (OSX) along with dyndns.com in order to get a site that’s running on the localhost available to the outside world?

I’ve set up a dyndns.com account and I placed the information into MAMP Pro. Everything is set up on dyndns.com and when I visit the address they gave me I get presented with my router login page (not really something I was wanting people to see though!) so I’m wondering what I now need to do in order to make one of the sites that I have in the htdocs folder available to the outside world?

I’m fairly certain our internet speed here probably isn’t even going to make this worth it but I’d still like to try and see if I can get it to work.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

I’ve done this before. If I remember correctly, I had to use port mapping to get the outside world to see my computer, instead of my router. I only needed to do this for a couple ports. And I did this through the router interface.

Yep I’m fairly certain I’ve done that. I used the router page to forward 8888 and 8889 to the IP address of the computer which is 192.168.0.102 at least I’m hoping that’s done and is the correct address.

Other than that though I’m pretty sure you’re meant to set up a host in MAMP Pro but any information on the web is exceptionally scarce and none of it has worked for me yet. Hoping to find someone who actually has it all working on their computer right now and who can tell me exactly what to do - dummy fashion 😉

I think you’re going to need to forward port 80 to your computer. That’s where the interweb is pointing to. It’s seeing your router on port 80 at the moment.

Found a forum thread for you here on the MAMP site.

Thanks for the info and the link. I’ve been all over that forum trying to figure out where I’m going wrong but to no avail unfortunately :-(

If I type in the DynDns address I was given I do currently have it showing me the router admin panel but obviously I’d rather it went to the main htdocs of the MAMP installation. Not too sure what I’m doing wrong in that respect though?

Thanks for the help on this.

Why not simplify things a bit? - take MAMP out of the picture for a minute.

Try to get your Mac’s own Apache server to act as a server. Instructions for that (though quite dated) are here. These have worked for me, with a rather ancient Mac. If you can get this to work, then setting up MAMP to run something more useful than a simple html page will be easier.

    Eeeeeeeek!!! The inbuilt server!!

    Agggggghhhh!!!

That’s the entire reason I’m trying to use MAMP as I was under the impression things would be a lot easier this way. I’ve always had problems in the past with the Apache server and never once got that to work.

I will however take a look at the link you’ve provided and give it one more go but really I’d much prefer to use MAMP as at the moment it just works for localhost installs and all I had to do was drop the App in the Applications folder!

    I like simplicity me 😉

Ok, ok! No inbuilt server (but it’s really not that bad, I promise!). I’ve got one more link for you, using MAMP, step by step:

How To Make your Mac a Web Server

Maybe this will help. I hope.

    HIya,

Thanks again. Actually I just got it working! I think our broadband connection is exceptionally bad so it was taking ages to do anything and timing out but I do now have it showing the MAMP sites.

Only thing now is that none of the styles are working as they are pointing to http://localhost etc… so not too sure what to do about that as I’d want to work with them locally as well.

Ah well, at least it is possible so I’ll stick at trying to get the styles working.

Thanks again for all the help on this one.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
