This question may be related to a resolved thread.
Upon uploading a new, blank copy of EE 2.1.3, pointing my browser to the system directory I get a blank screen in place of a setup wizard.
In debug mode I get:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /homepages/14/d187216665/htdocs/2011/LGP/installer/core/Installer_Config.php on line 45

This is just a guess, have you checked if you are running php5?

Good guess. This is hosted at 1&1 and the site is running PHP 4.4.9. I wonder if I can do anything about that…

Figured it out. Just needed a statement in .htaccess.
