    I’m using safecracker here.  What is wrong with how I’m approaching this?

    <?php $this->EE->form_validation->set_message('email_address_1', 'Your email address is required'); ?>

    {exp:safecracker channel="contacts" return="/more/ENTRY_ID" error_handling="inline" }

         <input type="text" name="email_address_1" value="" id="email_address_1" class="input-box"  />{error:email_address_1}

    {/exp:safecracker}

    Hi, Shane. Unfortunately SafeCracker is a third party add-on that you’ll need to contact for support.
